Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Little Rock AR
334 AM CDT Thu Apr 10 2025
...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...
.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Friday Night)
Issued at 330 AM CDT Thu Apr 10 2025
The weather conds were again quiet acrs the Natural State early this
mrng. Sfc high pressure ridge was situated to the east of the FA,
with a weak fntl bndry stalled out over northwest AR. Light south
and southwest winds overnight have kept predawn readings generally
in the 50s and lower 60s.
NWly steering flow aloft wl persist over the Mid-South over the next
few days, thanks to upper ridging over the western U.S. and a
deepening trof in the east. Several SWT`s wl cont to drop to the
southeast and traverse the region today and Fri. The first in the
series was already working east of AR early this mrng.
Another system is poised to pass thru the region later today and
early tngt. With aftn temps expected to warm into the 70s and lower
80s, mid lapse rates are still expected to steepen into the 7-8 C/km
range. This scenario conts to support the notion of large hail the
primary threat with storms that are able to maintain sufficient
updrafts, with damaging winds also possible.
CAMS cont to show a few storms forming arnd mid aftn, primarily ovr
northeast AR. The activity is still expected to translate to the
southeast into this evening, then shifting out of the FA. Due to the
limited areal coverage (20-30%) of the activity, no impacts to the
current high water levels is anticipated.
A reinforcing shot of cooler and drier air wl return to the FA tngt
and Fri behind the assocd CDFNT. Another SWT/sfc front is fcst dive
southeastward and skirt northeast AR later on Fri. Did not mention
any PoPs (<10%) attm, but would not be surprised to see a stray
shower or storm Fri aftn. A reinforcing shot of cooler/drier air
wl follow for the start of the weekend.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through Wednesday)
Issued at 330 AM CDT Thu Apr 10 2025
Flow aloft will be from the NW at the start of the long term
period...with an upper closed low over the ERN CONUS. SFC high
pressure will be in place over the region Sat morning...but will
slide east Sat night into Sun as upper level ridging develops over
the region. This will allow for SRLY SFC flow to return...and temps
to increase for Sun into Mon.
A new upper shortwave over the NRN Plains on Sun will deepen into
the a closed upper low over the NRN Great Lakes region by early next
week...with a trailing cold front dropping south through the Plains.
This front will move into the state Mon afternoon and evening...with
cooler temps returning for Tue and Wed. Latest guidance shows very
limited moisture ahead of this front...with little to no precip
expected. Even so...will need to see how this evolves in the coming
days as precip chances could return. Either way...no extended wet
periods are expected through the end of the forecast.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1245 AM CDT Thu Apr 10 2025
VFR conds still look to prevail thru the PD. An initial upper
impulse wl cont working east of the FA early this mrng, with
another fcst to pass acrs the area later today and early tngt. A
few showers/storms wl accompany the second system, mainly
affecting northeast AR. There wl be periods of mid and high lvl
clouds traversing the area. Light west/southwest winds, wl incrs
fm the west and northwest later on Thu, following the passage of a
cold front.
